Rev. Don Davis
Director, Founding Member
I was born and raised in New Orleans and moved to Yakima in the early 2000s. I’m the pastor at Bethel AME Church and the founder of Son of Davis Restoration Ministries, where I work to bring healing, hope, and faith to our community. Ministry is my life’s work, but I’ve also been involved in public education, having served on the Yakima School Board to help advocate for equity and opportunity for all students.
My faith is central to who I am, but so is family. I’m a husband, a father, and a proud grandfather. I love traveling with my wife, and we’re both big basketball fans—if there’s a game on, chances are we’re watching it together. I also find joy in mentoring young people and doing whatever I can to lift up those around me.
I’ve been in this fight for a long time. I marched in the civil rights movement as a young man and was blessed to have met leaders like Dr. King and John Lewis. Their words and actions helped shape the way I live and lead. So when I was asked to be part of a local response to racial injustice in Selah in 2020, I didn’t hesitate. I helped plan and speak at the first rally, and I’ve been part of this work ever since.
SAFE was born out of a movement—but it’s also a ministry of justice, peace, and progress. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s fighting for what’s right and helping build something better in the Yakima Valley.
